13 years of sharing and discussion around artistic education

The Regional Government of Madeira, through the Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology, annually promotes the Artistic Education Congress, aimed at all teachers, educators, researchers, students, educational managers and administrators, artists, cultural animators, educational service animators museums, cultural agents and others interested in educational issues.

Operated by the Conservatory – Escola Profissional das Artes da Madeira in partnership with the Directorate of Artistic Education Services of the Regional Directorate of Education, it aims to be, year after year, a moment of reflection to unite those interested in the general theme of artistic education. It’s a way to start the school year with new ideas, new experiences and extra motivation.

From national to international

Given the diversity of nationalities that, during the 13 editions of this Congress, attended our event, and as a result of the experience gained and the contacts made during the World Artistic Education Summit, organized in Funchal in March 2023, it was considered pertinent to integrate of the term ‘international’ in the nomenclature, for International Congress of Artistic Education.

The name changes but the structure of the event will be very similar to the previous one, organized by various types of sessions, with the main objective of allowing the participation of all those interested in presenting their projects and research and in order to provide a broad debate on the themes chosen for the event and sharing among participants. Thus, we will have a double attendance regime, in person and remotely, in which participants will be able to choose one of these two registration methods:

a) In-person, with access to the full program, in various spaces that allow all activities to be carried out in the best possible way and according to their characteristics.

b) Remotely, through the unified communication and collaboration platform ‘Microsoft Teams’, with a smaller program and less experimental offering (workshops, publishing fair and artistic moments).

As in previous years, there will be three days offering more than twenty workshops in various artistic and multimedia areas; an opening conference within the general theme of “art education”, held by a personality of recognized scientific competence; plenary sessions and ‘themes for debate’ where the major themes chosen for this edition of the congress will be addressed; space for panels structured following the plenary sessions and for which registrations are accepted for the presentation of free communications; presentation of editions; and social activities consisting of artistic moments, publishing fair and the awarding of the «Artistic Education Award» which will highlight an entity, school or project and a teacher.
